One of the greatest challenges facing the dental industry is achieving optimum esthetics with a metal-free restoration. While there are many all-ceramic systems offered today that are metal-free and strong, the marginal adaptation is far from that of traditional gold-palladium crowns. Quite often, the marginal adaptation is so loose that the crown falls off the die. Inlays and onlays have gaps that need to be filled with composite cement. Many dentists are reluctant to make all ceramic crowns due to the fear of decay under the exposed margin and fear of crowns dislodging or breaking.
