COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Updates in Esthetic and Implant Dentistry

The presentation will review current concepts in all-ceramic restorations and esthetic-implant restorations. Emphasis will be on linking research data to clinical procedures in esthetic dentistry, especially in the context of impressions, bonding procedures, cementation, and implant dentistry. Successful treatment planning in restorative dentistry is no longer exclusively based on the mere ability to restore function but also on the ability to choose and manage the proper restorative materials that will provide high biocompatibility, durability, and pleasing appearance. The presentation will compare and contrast the various restorative materials available in crown and bridge and implant dentistry and provide guideline to successfully choosing and combining them with proper surface treatments and cements/bonding agents.

Topics to be covered are as Follows:

  • Current status of all-ceramic restorations--classification and indications for all-ceramic systems, from porcelain veneer to single unit crowns to a full-mouth rehabilitation
  • The rationale for the selection of cements, bonding agents, and impression materials for esthetic applications including materials classification and indication for use
  • Esthetic implant restorations--classification and indications for currently available restorative options. Selecting the appropriate treatment plan (surgical and restorative protocols)
  • Proper clinical and laboratory planning and management of the various restorative interfaces, from metal to state of the art ceramic surfaces
